Point and Hope

Today is Saturday, January 5th, our first full day in Shanghai. We arrived to our hotel around 5pm yesterday and immediately went on a little tour of campus and an expedition to find food. As you would expect, everyone was exhausted and went to bed after "unpacking". I say "unpacking" because we don't have closets or drawers to put our clothes in, so we are living out of our suitcases, or in Joe's case off of the windowsill which has become their closet. We woke up early today from the jetlag and decided to go and explore our surroundings in the daylight. These are some of the pictures we've taken so far.

Unflattering first picture in China.. Joe is mid-blink and we were both exhausted.

One of four or five malls within walking distance of our hotel. It has something like 6 floors, including an arcade and a bunch of ridiculous stores.

Good restaurant we found while walking around today. It's all themed with Bruce Lee. One of our first experiences eating where we just pointed to something on the menu and hoped it turned out OK.

Funny sign in the mall for a toothbrush.

Lunch today (Saturday). Again, pointed to something on a menu and hoped it was good. Wasn't disappointed.

Tonight we have our SJTU welcome dinner at a fish restaurant which promises to be a good night. We are already tired from all of the walking around we did today. We've been wandering around exploring which has taken us across a lot more distance than if we just walked directly to the mall or wherever we're going.

More to come in the next few days..
